The main educational work of the Department of Russian for foreigners (non-philologists) is connected with two directions: «Professional language: Humanities and Natural Sciences aspects» and «The theory and the practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language for beginners».  

During the past 5 years the teachers of the Department have published more than 50 scientific and methodological works and teaching materials, including more than 20 textbooks on Russian as a second language. The teachers of the Department are engaged in research of the following subjects: «The Culture of Russian Speech», «Professional Communication», «Russian Scientific Style», «Essential Principles of Teaching of Russian as a Foreign Language», «Practical Grammar», «Functional Lexicology and Phraseology», «Lexicography», «Understanding and Creating Journalistic Genre», «The Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Language Testing», «Traditional Russian Culture», etc. 

The Department works on creating professionally-oriented learning texts and additional materials, as well as enriching the original professional text library.
